Job description

The Cardio-Respiratory Physiology (CRP) group will focus on mathematical modeling and clinical monitoring of the cardiorespiratory system. The modelling approach will be mechanistic and include modeling of fluid carriers, transported solutes, physiological control mechanisms, and electrophysiological signals, predominantly at the organ and organ system level. Models will be used to support clinical decision making, and improve prediction of outcomes and simulation based training. The CRP group will interact with engineering groups working on modeling of electrophysiological phenomena and fluid mechanics, and may take inspiration from stem cell biology groups working on disease models and artificial heart cells on microfluidic devices (organs-on-chips).

The Post-Doc / Assistant Professor will develop a specific research track in modeling of the cardiorespiratory system with main applications in pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases and acute care medicine. In addition to your deep understanding of cardiorespiratory physiology, you are interested in designing solutions to practical clinical problems in, for example, clinical technology assessment, data acquisition, and clinical decision support systems. It is expected you will acquire sufficient research funding (and personal grants) to hire PhD students and build a small research group, together with the senior staff in the CRP group. The candidate will be appointed as either a post-doc or assistant professor, based on past research performance. Dependent on scientific progress, you may be eligible for promotion to assistant professor and /or entry in a tenure track faculty position.
