Job description

The BMS lab delivers new methodologies for social sciences. It facilitates sensor-based systems, storage of data, knowledge in data processing, visualizations, and outcome measures to researchers and students of the BMS faculty and their cooperation partners (website: bmslab.utwente.nl). As new research in Virtual Reality in combination with physiological sensing is increasing, we are looking for a new team member with an expertise in those areas, but who can also coordinate the usage of new lab facilities.

The coordinator/developer will be responsible of running and maintaining the BMS LAB research arm in VR and Physiological sensing (EEG, GSR, HR, EMG, Motion capture) situated in new lab environments. You are able to autonomously explore new solutions in hardware and software (literature search, prototype testing, integration strategies and requirements engineering) and are familiar with the latest technologies in VR programming (Unity/Unreal). You are actively involved in research and development projects and will be part of the BMS lab team, which is part of the Faculty of Behavioural, Management, and Social Sciences.

Requirements

You have an academic background (MSc or PhD) in human function technologies and/or signal analysis, with additional knowledge in the field of gaming development and virtual reality. You show interest in sensing technologies and have a creative mindset to come up with new technical solutions and appealing designs in 3D for VR. Furthermore, you have affinity with the social sciences, like to work in multidisciplinary projects, have a service orientation as well as an independent opinion. You can clearly articulate this in both speech and writing in English.

Conditions of employment

As a BMS LAB team member, you will be working in a high-tech environment of the Design Lab, The Gallery at the University of Twente, where our lab is hosted. You will be assigned to the Behavioural Management Sciences Faculty for, at least, the duration of 1 year. The gross monthly salary will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. Depending on relevant background and experience, the gross monthly salary on a full time basis ranges from € 2.588,- to € 4.084,- per month. You are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The starting date will be October 1st, 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.
