Job description

You will be the inspiring head of our unique laboratory, in charge of its daily safe operation, the availability of equipment, its optimal use, timely upgrade, and constant improvement of the experimental facilities and instrumentation. You will be able to operate the equipment yourself and instruct users, as well as coordinate test campaigns for research projects of MSc and PhD students, You will initiate design and implementation of new experimental setups, and the instrumentation. You will also be involved in experimental feasibility studies, collaboration with industry, practical teaching, and training of researchers and students. Finally you will support the chair in the adequate financial management of the laboratory and its facilities.

Requirements

You preferably have
  • A Higher Vocational Education (HVE/HBO) in Aeronautical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or Electronic engineering;
  • Keen interest in fluid mechanics/aerodynamics/aeroacoustics.
  • Leadership and project organization skills, and good safety standards;
  • Hands-on experience in:
    • Design, implementation and testing of experimental setups, as well as operating, maintaining upgrading these setups;
    • Laboratory finance management;
    • Electronics for instrumentation, (e.g. PCB design);
    • Programing in LabVIEW, Matlab,
    • Establish and implement laboratory maintenance routines;
    • Supporting researchers as well as (bachelor and/or master) students.
    • Willingness to learn about the laboratory daily instrumentation (CTA, PIV, etc.)
  • You are highly motivated, self-reliant and possess the communication skills and the curiosity to thrive in a multidisciplinary research team. You have good analytical skills and mind-set.
  • You enjoy transmitting knowledge and instructing young researchers and students to do safe experimental research.
  • You can use English effectively. In order to interact meaningful with our industry partners, Dutch language skills are preferred. Non-Dutch speaking candidates will be supported by offering the opportunity of language classes.

Conditions of employment

We offer a challenging technician position in an inspiring multidisciplinary environment. You will be fulltime appointed at the University of Twente. We offer a position for a maximum period of two years with the intention to make this a permanent position after positive yearly evaluations. In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Dutch Universities the gross monthly salary for this position will range from € 2.709,- to € 3.722- , depending on your experience and qualifications.
