Infrastructures are vital for the functioning of societies and economies (road, railways, waterways, utilities etc). Over the past decades many governments pushed for more integrated and comprehensive approaches to design, construction and maintenance of infrastructures. Systems Engineering is on the rise to handle the various demands of partners in these different areas. The growing concerns over climate change, CO2 and our natural resources drive the development and adoption of Life Cycle Models and Circularity Perspectives in the infrastructure domain. As department of Civil Engineering we sense a growing need for research and education on the juncture of Systems Engineering and Life Cycle Management for designing, constructing and maintaining infrastructures. Hence we are looking for an assistant professor with the focus on Systems Engineering for Circularity and Life Cycle Perspectives within our group Construction Management & Engineering (CM&E).
Teaching: As assistant professor you will contribute to System Engineering Courses in our BSc program and Master programme in Civil Engineering and Management, and to the education/supervision in our program for Professional Doctorates in Engineering. Also, you will supervise BSc- and MSc-thesis projects. The total teaching load will be about 50%. If you are not yet formally qualified for teaching at universities, we offer a program and mentoring to obtain this qualification within 2 years (University Teaching Qualification, UTQ).
Research: We expect you to work as an independent researcher able to identify the academic questions in practical applications related to Systems Engineering, Circularity and Life Cycle Perspectives. You are able to bridge between academic research results and engineering practice and publish research results in high quality international refereed journals. You also have a positive attitude towards building networks and attracting external funding (national science foundation, EU, government and industry) for junior researchers (PhD and PDEng positions), of whom you will become the daily supervisor.
Are you up for the challenge to improve the world with your research as well as teaching on this state of the art technology?
