Job description

We are looking for candidates with expertise in the areas such as corporate finance, valuation, entrepreneurial finance, financial engineering, supply chain finance and health care finance, Fintech and ICT for financial services. You develop a viable research line linked to faculty level research domains; and play an active role in the acquisition of research funding. You will teach and develop courses in areas such as finance and accounting, financing start-up and scale-up companies, valuation and financial engineering, supply chain finance and health-care finance.

Research

Financial services and the financial service industry are facing significant change. Digitization is transforming the way services are delivered. What is the role of various, direct and indirect, stakeholders and how to reconcile economic and societal goals? The development of smart contracts and blockchain, based on e.g. game-theoretical models, adequate performance measures and effective incentives or regulations are all important constituting elements. Managing compliance of financial flows within international trade is often complex and requires new ways of modelling and checking transactions.

Technology enables new delivery channels, new services, new business models and personalization of financial services. High levels of automation and intelligent computing. Financing, compliance, reporting, payments, fraud detection, contracting, risk assessment, etc. will all change dramatically as analytic and intelligent technologies mature. The University of Twente is leading in Information Technology and high tech / digital business and health care innovation. We have robustly integrated our hard-core ICT expertise with our non-ICT disciplines, from behavioural sciences, healthcare and governance to transport and logistics, geo information systems and industry. A focus in our Digital Society research program is well-informed decision making and explainable data analytics. Expertise in financial valuation and risks is key in many of the ongoing research projects. Financing start-up and scale up companies and financial business modeling of technological innovations is vital to the successful implementation of technology. You develop original and innovative research in this area, typically inter-disciplinary and with a strong link to entrepreneurship and technology.

Teaching

Financial research and education at the university of Twente is part of multi-disciplinary research into emerging technologies and innovations in application domains such as healthcare, supply chains, smart industry and services. The assistant/associate professor will teach and coordinate courses in the Bachelor and Master programs of (International) Business Administration, Industrial Engineering & Management, Business & IT and Health Sciences; supervise bachelor and master thesis students of these programs; contribute towards the supervision of PhD students;

Requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues who hold a PhD degree in finance, financial engineering, information systems with a specialization in finance or related subjects from an internationally accredited university and can demonstrate good research accomplishment by means of paper presentations in international conferences and/or publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals; excellence in teaching Bachelor and Master level courses in English; profound experience in supervision of thesis students; and good communication & English language skills. We seek colleagues who will actively pursue scholarly research and enthusiastically approach multi-disciplinary teaching at all levels. You hold a University Teaching Qualification or are willing to achieve this.

Conditions of employment

A fulltime 2-year assistant professor/associate professor position, starting September 1st (preferred). After a positive evaluation in the second year the position will be permanent. The gross salary is in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) depending on experience. You receive a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
