Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) is starting a Learning & Innovation team as part of our faculty’s strategy. You will be part of a new team that will consist of a head of Learning & Innovation, several educational consultants (~2.4 fte), and existing staff for technical development and support of educational systems.

The main tasks and responsibilities of the L&I team (as a whole) are:

• Innovation and (further) development of ESSB education, in collaboration with teachers who retain ownership of their courses;
• Gaining and maintaining an overview of educational developments within the faculty and providing internal knowledge sharing;
• Supporting and motivating teachers when it comes to educational development;
• Training teachers and providing information about educational innovation and available tools;
• Evaluating the results of educational innovations;
• Implementing and maintaining digital tools/systems that are used in our education, such as Canvas;
• Connecting with staff and students, and expertise centers such as the EUR Community for Learning and Innovation (CLI), other L&I teams/hubs on campus, the LDE Center for Education and Learning (CEL), Erasmus Education Research (EER), RISBO, and our own ESSB education researchers.

As one of our educational consultants you will work together with teachers, tutors, students and/or policy makers to realise educational innovations. You combine advisory skills with a strong hands-on mentality. Next to one-on-one sessions with teachers, curriculum development, shaping innovation projects, evaluating projects/innovations, advising program directors, writing guidelines for digital tools, and training a group of teachers may be part of your role.

You make sure, together with the technical support colleagues within the L&I team, that innovative procedures and instruments are available, that they meet the latest developments in the field of digital education and that they are properly embedded in the university-wide IT systems. The starting point here is that digital tools are a means that must contribute to the end goal of high-quality education.

You will use your didactic expertise and stimulating way of working to support teachers in the redesign of (parts of) their courses. You will advice on, develop and implement new ways of organising our education, new didactic methods, educational processes, and (digital) tools. For this you will develop a network of colleagues within and outside the faculty, and you will carefully listen to and translate the wishes and needs of our teachers and program directors into effective innovations.

You recognise yourself in the following profile:

• A relevant master’s degree, for example in educational sciences/educational psychology. A PhD degree is considered a plus;
• Relevant work experience, preferably in higher education. Experience with being a teacher (in higher education) is considered a plus;
• Knowledge of and experience with a range of educational innovations, didactical approaches, learning analytics, and/or the use of educational ICT tools;
• Enthusiastic, pro-active, supportive and with the capability of connecting people;
• Experience with project-based work, including evaluation of (educational) projects;
• ompetencies such as: cooperative, taking initiative, taking responsibility, and commitment to the client;
• A solid command of English (at a minimum level of C1, according to the Common European Framework), both oral and written, and a solid command of Dutch or the willingness to learn Dutch at a basic working level in three years’ time. This will be facilitated.

Fixed-term contract: Your initial employment term will be 1 year and can may be extended/converted into a permanent contract if your performance proves satisfactory.

Your remuneration will depend on the position, your specific knowledge and experience It will be calculated on the basis of full-time salary ranging between EUR €2,709 and €4,978 gross per month (salary scale 10/11 CAO NU). The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences is home to a vast diversity of scientific disciplines: public administration, pedagogical sciences, psychology and sociology. In addition, the Erasmus University College, IHS, and two research institutes RISBO and DRIFT are linked to the faculty. This also reflects in the content of the (international) bachelor's and master's programs and in research.  Our activities are always focused on people and society.
