Job description
The Laboratory for Viral Immune Pathogenesis within the Department of Experimental Immunology, has a vacancy for a PhD student who will work on the topic of gene therapy for long term treatment of HIV infection. The project will focus on the design of lentiviral vectors that will deliver the HIV restriction factor Trim5a for HIV gene therapy. Antiviral activity of vector delivered Trim5a will be studied in vitro in cell lines and when successful also in vivo in a humanized mouse model. In addition, potential mechanisms of escape of HIV-1 from this gene therapy will be studied, as well as ways to prevent this escape.
The PhD student will perform the experiments and will be responsible for data analyses, presentation, and the writing of research papers. When successful, the research may result in a PhD thesis.
We ask for an enthusiastic and motivated PhD-student with a MSc degree in biology or medical sciences preferably with experience in molecular biology and/or virology. Good communicative skills in English are required.
We offer a fulltime appointment for the duration of 1 year in a dynamic research environment. The full time salary starts at € 2086,- and will maximally be € 2673,- gross per month in the last year.
