The department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, is renowned for the establishment of large population-based studies. In 2001, the Generation R Study began in Rotterdam. Generation R is a multidisciplinary, innovative, and outstanding research study, which follows prospectively approximately 9,000 children from the general population from before birth into adulthood. The study includes repeated measures of cognitive and behavioral domains in the children and their parents. In addition, blood has been collected from the children and parents for genetic analyses. The study aims to generate new scientific insight into physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
Within the Generation R Study, there is funding for a 2-year postdoctoral position on population-based research in neurodevelopment. Work will include, but not be limited to, a project titled: ‘The effects of prenatal exposure to nicotine and cannabis on brain development in school age children’. The position will involve assisting in data collection, image processing of high-resolution structural, diffusion tensor imaging, and restingstate functional MRI. It is recommended, but not required, that the analysis of the behavioural and cognitive data complement the neuroimaging project. A more detailed description of the Generation R project and available data are available on the Generation R website (http://www.generationr.nl/).
You will be responsible for the conduct of the project and will analyze the data from the Generation R Study together with PhD students and a multidisciplinary group of senior researchers. The results of this research will be published in international scientific journals. NIHES courses in Epidemiology or Public Health may be part of the project.
Applicants must hold a PhD or MD and have experience in both quantitative data analyses and neuroimaging, preferably with experience in imaging children. It is important that applicants are able to work well independently and within a team, and that he/she has a good command of English; Dutch language skills are not required.
