Job Erasmus MC - Postdoc

The postdoc will extend our research team and will specifically set up and lead the clinical part of the ParisK study in Rotterdam. In the clinical study US, CT and MRI of the atherosclerotic carotid plaque are performed in 100 patients at baseline and 2-year follow-up. Plaque parameters will be related to new cerebrovascular events and new infarcts on brain MRI. The main goal is the evaluation of the role of image-based plaque parameters in the prediction of ischemic stroke. You will be expected to work closely with the other centres involved in the study. Close collaboration with the image analysis research group is essential. You will be expected to take part in the training and supervision of Ph.D. students.

You are an enthusiastic and highly-motivated Ph.D. with a background in medicine/biology or a related field and interested in the clinical relevance of atherosclerotic plaque imaging. Previous research experience with clinical studies, imaging, or cardiovascular disease would be advantageous. Candidates must be available to start at short notice. The position requires command of written and spoken English, as well as good communication skills. Fluency in Dutch is required.

We offer a 5-year contract in an inspiring and challenging work environment with excellent fringe benefits. The gross salary depends on education and working experience, with a maximum of € 3.860,- (scale 10) per month. The full terms of employment are in accordance with the Collective Employment Agreements for the Dutch University Hospitals (CAO UMC).

The department of Radiology has a long-standing track-record in clinical and fundamental CT and MR research on atherosclerotic plaque imaging. The research topics are ‘validation of new imaging technologies’, ‘development and evaluation of post-processing techniques’, and ‘cross-sectional and longitudinal studies to evaluate the relevance for clinical practice’. Besides animal studies, human studies are performed in patient and population cohorts. The research is performed within the KNAW accredited research schools COEUR and NIHES. The department participates in a large multicentre study which is part of the CTMM-sponsored ParisK study.
