Founded in 1952 by Dutch universities and the Netherlands Ministry of Education, the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is one of the oldest and largest institutes of development studies in Europe. ISS is an international graduate school focusing on policy-oriented critical social science. It pays particular attention to experiences and perspectives in the Global South, but also explores questions of poverty, development, political and economic transition, equity and human rights throughout the world. ISS brings together students and staff from the South and the North in a European environment. As of 2009 the ISS has become a University Institute within Erasmus University Rotterdam, based in The Hague. The Office of Educational Affairs is responsible for developing and monitoring of educational policy and student affairs.

1. Staff Group Administrator (0,5 fte)

Tasks of and responsibilities

  • Secretarial support to the Staff Group Board ;
  • Organisation, preparation, minute taking and communication of decisions of Staff Group meetings and Staff Group Board meetings;
  • Keeping track of the expenditures and financial commitments of the Staff Group, including preparing overviews for the SG Board, IB and the Financial Department;
  • Keeping an overview of Staff activities and fulfilling related formalities;
  • Advising the SG-Board on specific budget items and procedures and playing an active role in alerting the SG-Board to developments and risks;
  • Providing administrative support to staff of teaching projects and other project/consultancy activities.
  • Archiving;
  • Contributing to internal and external quality assurance procedures.

 

2. Programme Administrator (0,5 fte) 

Tasks of and responsibilities

  • Acting as the first contact for the students of the programmes concerned for practical and personal support;
  • Secretarial and administrative support to the academic staff of the teaching programmes concerned, esp. the MA-Specialisations in Rural Livelihoods and Global Change (RLGC) and Environment and Sustainable Development (ESD);
  • Contributing to the preparation of the Academic Calendar, the prospectus and flyers by gathering information in the SG/specialisation;
  • Supplying information to staff and students on the organisation and procedures of teaching programmes;
  • Maintaining teaching environments for courses and specialisations in Moodle;
  • Organising meetings with students, study visits, field trips and extra curriculum activities;
  • Handling marks according to the prescriptions of the Board of Examiners;
  • Invitations and declarations guest lecturers;
  • Assisting in promotion activities at programme level
  • Archiving;
  • Contributing to internal and external quality assurance procedures.

 

 

Requirements

For both vacancies we have set the following requirements

 

  • At least at VWO level and two years working experience in a similar position;
  • Some years secretarial and administrative experience;
  • Good command of the English language (spoken and written), while command of the Dutch language is an asset;
  • Capability to organize;
  • Good social and communicative skills;
  • Experience with supporting students is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently.

Employment conditions

ISS offers you a pleasant, collegial working environment with varied tasks and career development possibilities. A temporary appointment for an initial period of two years will be offered with the prospect of a permanent appointment.

In accordance with those applied at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and indicated in the Collective Labour agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities. Salary being dependent on the candidate’s experience ranges from € 1986 to € 2682 gross per month (CAO NU scale 7) under full-time contract.
