The Dutch government has provided the Dutch life sciences and health sector with a subsidy of EUR 81 million (FES2009), doubled by industrial and academic partners to a total of EUR 162 million. Part of this budget will be used for devices based on regenerative medicine, coordinated by the Netherlands Initiative for Regenerative Medicine (NIRM).
Within NIRM, one PhD position is available for a collaborative project between the Radboud University Nijmegen (Department of Organic Chemistry) and the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center (Department of Biomaterials).
Background: MedTech company GATT Technologies BV aims at broadening GATT™, General Adhesive Tissue Tape, to be used as a bone substitute
Location: Nijmegen, The Netherlands
Task: Chemical synthesis, testing and developing activated polymers including the development of a bone substitute (patent pending)
Reports to: Prof. dr. ir. J. C.M. Van Hest (chemical synthesis); Prof. Dr. John A. Jansen, DDS (experimental implantology)
Scientific team: Prof. dr. J.A. Jansen, Prof. dr. ir. J. C.M. Van Hest, Dr. ir. S. Leeuwenburgh and Prof. Dr. R. Hoogenboom (Ghent, Belgium)
Requirements: Persons holding a master degree in biomedical or chemical sciences with a strong proficiency in bio(medical) polymers are invited to react. Important qualities of the appointee will be enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and the ability to work and interact with others in an energetic and supportive research environment incl. an adequate track record of scientific publications.
36 hrs per week, salary € 2100 - 2700 gross per month. Successful completion of the PhD track can be the starting point for an R&D Management position at GATT Technologies BV.
