The Diploma Programme is designed as an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, normally aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. The programme is normally taught over two years. IB Diploma Programme students study six courses at higher level or standard level chosen from each of groups 1 to 5 to provide breadth of experience in languages, social studies, the experimental sciences and mathematics. The sixth subject may be an arts subject chosen from group 6, or the student may choose another subject from groups 1 to 5.
This role will be in the Diploma Programme curriculum department as a curriculum subject area manager in groups 4 and 5 (experimental sciences and mathematics) to support the development and management of the physics and mathematics curriculum. The physics curriculum review is just beginning, so the post will be an exciting opportunity to guide and shape a new physics curriculum for the IB Diploma Programme.
Curriculum subject area managers are responsible for leading and managing curriculum research, review and development for a number of subjects, producing the course guides, teacher support material and professional development materials for teachers. The post holder will work alongside the DP assessment team and closely with other departments within the IB, and also with external educators such as teams of teachers, examiners, consultants and others.
January 2011 or earlier if possible. Salary: 46,000 – 60,000 Euros per year, dependent upon experience.
With schools as far South as Cape Town in South Africa, as far North as Tromsø in Norway, as far East as Vladivostok in Russia and as far West as Muscat in Oman, the IB Africa, Europe, Middle East region is both geographically large and culturally very diverse. At present there are more than 804 schools in 82 countries teaching one or more of the three IB programmes. All three IB official languages—English, French and Spanish—are represented among the IB World Schools in our region.
The post will be based in The Hague, the Netherlands. An international hire package will be available to assist a successful candidate to relocate to the Netherlands. The position will involve some international travel.
