The Leiden Institute of Biology (IBL) intends to expand its research program in the molecular biosciences through the appointment of a junior staff member and invites applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. We are seeking an energetic researcher with outstanding qualifications who will build up a research group, and who will contribute to shaping the future directions of research in Leiden.
The IBL unites two research clusters with staff focusing on the Molecular Biosciences and Evolutionary Biosciences, respectively. All the research groups have modern, state-of-the-art facilities and are housed in the Sylvius laboratories at the Sciences Campus of Leiden University. The Institute has a long tradition of excellence in fundamental research in a broad range of subjects that comprises microbiology as well as animal and plant sciences. The Institute fosters an international atmosphere with strong interactions among the various groups as well as with other departments from the Faculty of Science, Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity Naturalis and the Leiden University Medical Centre.
This position is open to energetic scientists who have shown their talent and scientific potential, ‘out-of-the-box’ thinkers with a clear view on a challenging research program. You have a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, life sciences or biochemistry and several years of experience at the postdoctoral level. Preferably, your research interest connects with one of the current topics of research at our Institute.
In parallel with your research, you are expected to be successful in raising research funds, teaching undergraduate (and graduate) courses in Dutch and English, and to contribute to management and organization of the Institute. You should fit in the research landscape at Leiden University and in the Netherlands, and be eager to join in research collaborations.
