Job description
Aim of the project is to understand the effect of the cleaning/conditioning on the surface composition of different substrate surfaces, such as cold rolled steel, hot-dip galvanized steel and aluminium alloys, and the influence on deposition and performance of the nano ceramic layers. The approach will be to implement a variety of state-of-the-art in-situ electrochemical and optical characterisation techniques correlating the layer formation characteristics to the ultimate adhesion and corrosion performance level.
The candidate will have a unique opportunity and should be comfortable to work and interact with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers consisting of (electro)chemical and surface scientists on a regular basis, within both industry and academia.
Requirements
The PhD researcher candidate must have:
- a Master's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics;
- a firm background in metallurgy, surface science and characterization and affinity with conversion coating chemistry is favorable;
- relevant experimental skills in surface and interface characterization, preferably in relation with conversion coating/metal (oxide) chemistry, optical characterization technology and/or electrochemistry;
- good oral and written communication skills in English.
The vacancy is located at Delft University of Technology in Delft and the PhD Researcher will obtain a doctorate degree awarded by Delft University of Technology.
Conditions of employment
When fulfilling a PhD position at M2i, the candidate will be given the status of PhD Researcher. He/she will have employee status and will be eligible for all the employee benefits offered by M2i.
The contract is for 4 years. Gross salary for the first year is EUR 2,242 gross per month. This amount increases to EUR 2,587 gross per month in the fourth year. The PhD thesis should be completed at the end of the 4th year term with M2i. The researcher and the supervisor will draw up a plan for any additional training and supervision that is specifically needed.
