Job description

The Learning and Cognition program of the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC) studies the cognitive and social processes underlying learning. The work is dedicated to: developing theories for the design and development of effective and efficient learning situations and environments for formal and lifelong learning (Research); exploring, co-developing and testing innovations to foster that learning (Laboratories); and making the knowledge, skills and tools available to others (Solutions). Research projects are use-inspired, directed to scientific theory development, and application-oriented.

As UD / Assistant Professor, you will be responsible for Research, Laboratories or Solution Projects. You will plan, realize and coordinate of one or more independent research projects, preferably from a perspective on lifelong learning, within one of the research foci of the Learning and Cognition program. In addition, you will fulfil carry out work in either Laboratories or Solutions projects. An important part of your job will be to bring in externally funded research projects and supervising internal PhD candidates.

Requirements

PhD in a relevant field (e.g., educational sciences, learning sciences, educational technology, educational psychology, cognitive psychology, workplace learning, cognitive neuroscience, AI/Agent technology).
Member of a relevant research school (e.g., ICO), or meeting its admission requirements.
Publications in SSCI and/or ICO accepted journals (minimum of 6 in the last 5 years).
National reputation in a relevant academic field.
Broad network nationally in the field of educational research.

Conditions of employment

You will work at the Open University in Heerlen. It is possible to make appointments about working at home for a part of the time.

The Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC) is a Centre of Excellence in the fields of Learning Sciences and Technology Enhanced Learning. CELSTEC aims to research, develop and provide sustainable and evidence-based solutions for the advancement of learning at work, at school, at home and on the move. This is accomplished by combining state-of-the-art research in the Learning Sciences with the innovative powers of new media, mobile devices and the Internet. New solutions are extensively tested in our laboratories and in real practice, following the principles of open innovation. CELSTEC has got four programs: LEARNING & COGNITION, LEARNING NETWORKS and LEARNING MEDIA. It also runs a SCHOOL OF EDUCATION. In 2008 CELSTEC’s research programmes received the highest average score of all educational research programmes in the Netherlands. It has about 100 fte of staff. Under its former name “OTEC” (Dutch abbreviation of Educational Technology Expertise Centre), the institute gained worldwide recognition as a successful centre for research and innovation in the field. The history of the institute goes back to the early 1980's.

Salary
The maximum salary for a permanent and full-time position is € 4970,- gross per month conform VSNU standards and depending upon your qualifications and experience.
