Job description

You are responsible for the realisation of high quality educational software.
You cooperate with users and graphic designers to realise effective user interfaces.
You advise about feasibility and costs.
You contribute to publications and presentations.
You work in a team with other developers, conferring on a regular basis about the progress in projects.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who has completed higher professional or academic education in computer science or in a related program with a substantial ICT component.
You can translate complex technical concepts, learning design specifications, functional and technical requirements into technical and functional designs and architectures.
You can implement these designs into appealing end-user applications.
You have sufficient background in domain modelling, domain specific modelling, visual languages and interaction design to develop high-end visual graphical user-interfaces for end-user applications.
You have proven, extensive experience in developing web-applications and web services, extensive knowledge about Java,  J2EE, Spring  and preferably Liferay, Eclipse and XML, know how to apply web 2.0 services. You are confident about internet architecture and the related standards and protocols.
You are familiar with open source software development.
You like to work in a team but  you also can work independent.
Experience with Learning Technologies is an advantage.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for a permanent and full-time position is € 4.374,- gross per month conform VSNU standards and depending upon your qualifications and experience.

The Open University offers flexible working conditions and good secondary benefits such as training, mobility, part-time employment and paid parental leave.

Contract type: Temporary, Temporary position for 3 years.

The Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC) is a Centre of Excellence in the fields of Learning Sciences and Technology Enhanced Learning. CELSTEC aims to research, develop and provide sustainable and evidence-based solutions for the advancement of learning at work, at school, at home and on the move. This is accomplished by combining state-of-the-art research in the Learning Sciences with the innovative powers of new media, mobile devices and the Internet. New solutions are extensively tested in our laboratories and in real practice, following the principles of open innovation. CELSTEC has got four programs: LEARNING & COGNITION, LEARNING NETWORKS and LEARNING MEDIA. It also runs a SCHOOL OF EDUCATION. In 2008 CELSTEC’s research programmes received the highest average score of all educational research programmes in the Netherlands. It has about 100 fte of staff. Under its former name “OTEC” (Dutch abbreviation of Educational Technology Expertise Centre), the institute gained worldwide recognition as a successful centre for research and innovation in the field. The history of the institute goes back to the early 1980's.
