Job description
The vacancy is for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Experimental Conservation Ecology in the Center for Ecological and Evolutionary Studies (CEES). The candidate is expected to initiate new research in the area of Conservation Ecology. He/she has to attract new PhD projects and build up a leading international position in this field. He/she is an excellent teacher who can motivate students of different disciplines and he/she has to develop new courses on specific topics about this subject in the BSc and the MSc programmes. Teaching duties include the supervision of bachelor, master and PhD students.

Requirements
- the successful candidate will possess a PhD in biology with proven expertise in the field of community ecology and skills with regard to experimental studies (greenhouse/climate chambers, common garden experiments, field), data management and novel statistical techniques, with application to current issues in conservation (climate change, habitat loss, invasive species, eutrophication)
- the candidate must have international experience in a postdoctoral position, i.e. two or more successful (publications!) years at a foreign research institution
- the candidate must be the author of at least 5 publications in international peer-reviewed journals
- strong record of research accomplishments, demonstrated capability to perform original research, substantial list of publications in high ranking, peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations
- excellent organisational and teaching skills
- experience in application for research funding is desirable
- fluency in English and knowledge of Dutch, and willingness to learn this language.
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen can offer you a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience up to a maximum of € 4,374 (scale 11) or € 4,970 (scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is offering young, talented researchers, tenure track Assistant Professor positions. These staff members are expected to develop their own line of research within a particular field. The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a maximum of 6 years. If the outcome of the assessment is positive, the Assistant Professor will be promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. At the end of a further 5-7 year period there will be another assessment aimed at a promotion to Full Professor.
