The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen announces the vacancy of a permanent full-time position in Contemporary History (post-1945 history) at the level of (Senior) Lecturer/Assistant Professor. We are looking for a young, inspiring, and multi-faceted colleague with the knowledge and experience to fully contribute to the contemporary history programme of teaching and research (the latter forming a part of the Groningen Research Institute for the Study of Culture ICOG).
Job description
We search for a candidate who is able to:
- teach in the domain of contemporary history within the history department programme, including its minor programmes, and in addition, within other branches of the Faculty of Arts and other Faculties
- perform excellent research in the contemporary history field
- supervise master theses in the contemporary history field
- carry out administrative and organizational responsibilities.
We ask that the candidate:
- has a PhD in contemporary history or in the social or political sciences
- has a proven scientific interest in contemporary history, including the most recent period
- has experience with teaching about problems of contemporary history
- has a specific research profile, including a set of publications related to this profile
- is able to teach and write fluently in English
- is familiar with the use of new media for teaching
- has administrative and organizational skills.
The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,195 gross per month (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 4,970 gross per month (salary scale 12) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday pay and 8,3% end-of-year gratification and participation in a pension scheme for employees. This is a tenure position; the decision on tenure will be taken on the basis of a formal assessment after two years.
The starting date for this appointment is August 1st, 2010 (with the prospect of starting teaching from September 1st, 2010).
