The Department of IRIO is committed to top research combined with high quality education. This commitment to excellence is apparent at both the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels. IRIO, with over 30 staff members, provides high quality, interdisciplinary and international Bachelor and Master degree programmes. Students and staff are drawn to studying international relations and the role of international organization in an integrated manner from historical, political, economic and legal angles. The Department provides an international working environment for an increasing number of foreign students and research staff. Teaching is organized in cooperation with staff members from the Department of History, and the faculties of Law and Economics. The Bachelor and Master degree programmes are both taught in English and Dutch. There are currently about 900 students registered for IRIO programmes. Research in the Department of IRIO is organized around four chairs, respectively in: Security Studies & IR Theory; International Political Economy (IPE); European Cooperation & Integration; and International Order & Global Governance.

Job description

In addition, participation in managerial committees related to the organization of the degree programmes or research grant applications will be expected. In research the candidate is expected to develop her/his own research projects (both individually and in small teams).

Requirements

The candidate must want to work in an interdisciplinary department. The department prefers an experienced expert in IR, preferably with a specialization in European Studies and/or IPE, as demonstrated by:
- a completed PhD
- proven research results, supported by a list of publications
- further research potential and plans
- confirmed experience in academic teaching, at various levels and in various formats
- excellent demonstrable oral and written skills in English

This is a tenure position; the decision on tenure will be taken on the basis of a formal assessment after two years.

The starting date for this appointment is August 1st, 2010 (with the prospect of starting teaching from September 1st, 2010).

The university is an equal opportunities employer. Because women are still underrepresented in a number of fields, they are particularly encouraged to apply.
