Job description
The Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen is seeking a professor of Early Modern History. The chair focuses on the study of the history of the period from 1500 to c. 1800.
The position involves
- coordinating and providing teaching in the above-mentioned field within the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in History and, depending on the professor's profile, within the Research Master in Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies or the Research Master in Modern History and International Relations
- coordinating and conducting research in the field of the chair mandate
- acquiring external resources for research and internationalizing the teaching programme
- performing administrative tasks within the Faculty and where necessary outside it
- further cultivating and developing national and international contacts to benefit the teaching and research.
Requirements
We are seeking candidates with leadership qualities and enthusiasm to head a team at the cutting edge of developments in the field of the history of culture and politics.
We assume that interested parties
- have a PhD in the field of Early Modern History
- have a demonstrable interest in theory formation in the field of culture and politics as well as in the historiography of history
- are experienced, involved lecturers
- have extensive research experience in the field of early modern history
- have good administrative and organizational skills
- have been successful at raising external funds for research
- have experience in supervising PhD students
- are able to promote interest in the field
- are prepared to move to the Groningen area.
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen Offers a full-time position as Full Professor 2 as from 1 February 2011. The salary will be € 4,904 (minimum)/ € 7,142 (maximum) gross per month for fulltime employment (CAO for Dutch universities).
