Job description
This project is a cooperation between the Department of Applied Materials Science (Dr P.R. Hageman, Institute of Molecules and Materials, Radboud University Nijmegen) and Crystal Q B.V., a company offering the LED industry superior quality substrates at low costs by investing in improved sapphire growing, slicing and polishing technology. The demand for GaN based devices is expected to increase significantly over the coming years. Larger diameter substrates aim to decrease the production costs for the semiconductor industry. In cooperation with the AMS Department, CrystalQ wants to develop its own sapphire crystal growth technique based on the Kyropoulos method. Growth equipment and experience has been acquired by CrystalQ, but, in order to be able to grow at competitive prices, excellent quality sapphire in large diameters and considerable knowledge of the crystal growth process are required. This knowledge will be acquired by simulation of the crystal growth process, including the crucial temperature profiles in the reactor, on the basis of the experiments conducted at CrystalQ. The knowledge obtained should lead to a high level of understanding of the crystal growth process, enabling that automation of the process. You will be responsible for the knowledge aspect of the project. Close collaboration with CrystalQ will be necessary for a good and efficient execution of the project plan.
Requirements
You should have an MSc in Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline, with a demonstrable interest in crystal growth and the simulation of processes.
Conditions of employment
Minimum salary for the postdoctoral position is €2,861 (scale 10.4). Initial salary depends on relevant work experience.
Contract type:
Temporary,
You will initially be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher for one year.
Organisation
Radboud University Nijmegen
Strategically located in Europe, Radboud University Nijmegen is one of the leading academic communities in the Netherlands. A place with a personal touch, where top-flight education and research take place on a beautiful green campus in modern buildings with state-of-art facilities.
Department
Faculty of Science
The Department of Applied Materials Science’s mission is:”Fundamental research on materials of thin films of technological interest”. Its research is directed towards crystal growth from the gas phase and materials science of semiconductors. The research is primarily focused on opto-electronic materials such as GaAs, AlGaAs, InP and InGaP, and more recently, on GaN.
