Job Radboud University Nijmegen - Full Professor of Stem Cell Biology

The newly created Stem Cell Biology department is embedded in the Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS), a joint research institute of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre and the Faculty of Science. The NCMLS seeks to obtain greater insights into the complexity of living cells, focusing on basic science and its translation into treatments for disease. The new department is expected to participate in the activities of NCMLS research theme 3: Cell Growth and Differentiation. Studying the processes that underlie growth and differentiation is pivotal to a basic understanding of the causes of many diseases and malfunctions. Excellent opportunities exist for multidisciplinary collaborations with Radboud University groups, including the departments of Molecular Biology (epigenetic profiling and deep sequencing) and Human Genetics (genetic profiling and deep sequencing), the NCMLS Microscopic Imaging Centre, the Donders Centre for Neuroscience (DCN) and the Medical Centre’s clinical departments.

You should have an established research group with a record of excellence in original research. You are a productive scientist with demonstrated leadership skills who is interested in fundamental questions regarding embryonic stem cells, (induced) pluripotency or differentiation. Furthermore you will head and develop a new department and are expected to contribute to the Faculty of Science’s educational mission.

The Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS) is a leading multidisciplinary research school within the domain of molecular mechanisms of disease and particularly in the fields of molecular medicine, cell biology and translational research. The NCMLS accommodates research groups from the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre and the Faculty of Science at Radboud University Nijmegen. Our research is focused along three main research themes in keeping with our mission towards ‘Understanding the cellular basis of disease'. The major goal of the NCMLS is to generate basic knowledge from molecular medical research and to translate this knowledge into clinical application in the development diagnostics and innovation in the treatment of patients through translational research programmes. The multidisciplinary approach to molecular life science research is also reflected in an established NCMLS graduate school with a dedicated international honours MSc degree programme in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease and a follow-up PhD programme.
