You will be using advanced statistical and bioinformatics techniques to investigate the genetic architecture of cardiovascular disease (e.g. stroke, coronary heart disease and peripheral artery disease) using data from the SMART study (Second Manifestations of Arterial Disease). The goal is to gain new insights into the complex pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for the development of cardiovascular disease.
You are a highly motivated graduate in biomedical sciences, biology or biochemistry with a background in bioinformatics, epidemiology, genetics and/or statistics. You should be interested in working with large datasets, in genetics, and in exploring and testing statistical and bio-informatics techniques.
We offer a temporary full-time appointment for 3 or 4 years on the salary scale for Ph.D. students.

The Department of Cardiology
You will be working at the Department of Cardiology at the University Medical Center Utrecht. This project will be conducted in collaboration with the Department of Medical Genetics and the Julius Center at the UMC Utrecht.
