We are a recently founded, internationally oriented group conducting fundamental research on electrostatics and electron transfer in liquid, and simultaneously exploring new concepts for fluidic technologies based on this new understanding. Recent and current research topics include for example carbon nanotube and graphene (bio)sensors, the physics of charge inversion and DNA condensation by multivalent ions, the fundamentals of electrophoresis, high frequency CMOS-based nanosensors, and electrochemical detection of single molecules in nanofluidic devices. This research is imbedded in the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and makes extensive use of the latter’s world-class cleanroom facilities. In addition to the present opening, a second tenure-track position will start in 2012, bringing the size of the group to three faculty members. We seek to strengthen the research effort in NI by opening a TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN NANOIONICS The candidate will lead an independent research effort in areas that complement and enhance the group’s existing activities. He/she will develop his/her own research line, secure external funding, supervise the junior scientists associated with his/her projects, and contribute to the overall intellectual life of the group. He/she will further participate actively in the faculty’s teaching activities. |
We are looking for candidates with
· an outstanding research track record in disciplines that are closely connected to our ongoing projects, including physics, biophysics, (nano)chemistry, and nanofluidics,
· excellent experimental and conceptual skills,
· the ability to communicate effectively and inspire students and co-workers, and · the aptitude and drive to conduct exploratory, pioneering research.
You will be appointed in a Tenure Track position [in accordance with Clause 6.5a of the Collective Labour Agreement - Dutch Universities]. A Tenure Track contract enables you to direct your own career based on fixed performance agreements, in which context promotion from UD (assistant professor) to UHD (associate professor) and subsequently to professor is possible. An initial appointment at UHD level is also possible for candidates with appropriate experience. A definitive assessment will take place no later than five years after commencement of employment after which, following a positive review, employment for an indefinite period will be granted.
