Job description

Recent research themes of USE’s Theoretical Microeconomics group include among others: social and economic networks, behavioral economics, industrial organization, and experiments.

The position includes both teaching and research tasks.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in economics or be close to completion of a PhD.  We are looking for candidates with proven interest in theoretical research, preferably in the area of industrial organization, game theory and the economics of social networks.

Candidates should be interested in institutional, historical and/or spatial dimensions of economic problems and in cooperating with scientists from such disciplines. Fluency in English is expected. Additional Dutch language skills are desirable. Female candidates are explicitly invited to apply.

Conditions of employment

Initially, a 4 year contract will be offered, with the possibility of obtaining tenure subsequently. A part-time position is negotiable.

The gross salary will be between € 3,195 and € 4,970 scale 11 and 12, excluding holiday and end of year allowance (Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), dependent on training and experience.

Utrecht University School of Economics (USE) is part of the Faculty of  Law, Economics and Governance of Utrecht University, one of the most reputable research universities in the Netherlands and Europe. USE presently has approximately 1,000 bachelor’s and master’s students and about 100 faculty employees. USE aims at world-standard economic teaching and research while encouraging multidisciplinary approaches and giving special attention to institutional, historical and spatial dimensions. In its activities, USE crosses disciplinary borders by collaborating actively with the faculties of Law, Geography, Social Science and History. USE maintains active international relationships and teaches its curricula in both Dutch and English.

USE has two teaching institutes, the Undergraduate School and the Graduate School. Research falls under USE’s third institute, the Tjalling C. Koopmans Institute (TKI).
