We are currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher to participate in the Wired Up program. Wired Up is an international, interdisciplinary collaborative project between the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Vanderbilt University, USA, is also taking part in the project. The project is funded by Utrecht University, through the prestigious High Potential Programme. Wired Up researches how new digital media practices, in particular the Internet, impact on the lives, identities, learning and socialization of migrant youth.

Job description
In Wired Up we are researching the impact of new digital applications on the construction of identity of young Dutch migrants in a transnational setting. We are investigating in particular how diasporic communities are constructed and sustained through the analysis of youth networks, specific patterns of consumption and modes of self-presentation online as well as how new patterns of learning arise from these youth networks.
The postdoc is expected to do comparative analysis of the data collected in the wired up team by also combining different approaches across disciplines from the humanities and social science.
The project will draw from the field of (digital) media studies, postcolonial theories, gender and cultural studies along with anthropology, education, migration, youth and literacy studies, also depending on the specific expertise the post-doc will bring into the team.

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic researcher with a PhD in a relevant field, either in the Humanities or Social Science with a preference for knowledge and/or experience in the following fields: media studies (in particular new digital media), gender and ethnic studies, youth studies, education and new literacies, multicultural studies and migration studies.

We offer a postdoctoral position (0,8 fte) for the period of 2 years, starting April 1, 2010.
The gross salary will range between € 2,977.- and € 4,374.- per month on a full-time basis depending on experience and qualifications. The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3% per year.
