Job description

Within this full-time tenure-track appointment (part-time is negotiable), you will teach in the domain of English language and culture at the bachelor and master levels. You will be partially responsible for teaching English linguistics and second language acquisition of English, as well as fulfilling related coordinating tasks. You will teach also within various related crosslingual programmes, and in the Research Master Linguistics. You will carry out research at an internationally acknowledged level within the area of English linguistics, fitting the research programme of the Utrecht Institute of Linguistics (Uil-OTS). You will also perform various job-related administrative tasks.

Requirements

We require:

  • extensive experience in teaching English linguistics and second language acquisition of English, both at the bachelor and master levels;
  • extensive research experience in these areas, as borne out by a finished PhD and publications at an internationally recognised level;
  • experience with successful applications for external funding is recommended;
  • experience in a coordinating positions is recommended;
  • good communication skills;
  • formal academic teaching qualifications; or willingness to acquire them;
  • native fluency in English

Non-Dutch speaking candidates are required to reach fluency in Dutch within two years of appointment.

Conditions of employment

We offer a full-time appointment for 2 years (part-time is negotiable). According to University regulations (Functies, Loopbanen en Waardering (FLOW)) you are expected to obtain basic teaching qualifications within this period of time. Given satisfactory performance within that period, the appointment will be continued with a 3-year appointment.

Depending on your experience and overall record, your monthly gross salary will be minimally € 3,195 (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities) and maximally € 4,970 (scale 12), based on a full-time basis.

The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition we offer: a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible employment conditions.

The research programmes in these areas are carried out under the supervision of either the Research Institute for History and Culture (OGC) or the Utrecht Institute of Linguistics (UiL-OTS).
