On the inner shelf of many coastal seas (depths of 10-20 m) patches of sand ridges are observed that have a rhythmic structure in the alongshore direction. The formation of these ridges is attributed to feed-backs between storm-driven currents, waves and the sandy bottom, but their evolution is also affected by changes in sealevel, wind climate and by human interventions. The aim of this project is to to gain more fundamental knowledge about the dynamics of these sand ridges.
