The Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for an Assistant Professor (University Lecturer) in European Public Policy, broadly defined as the study of governance and policy-making institutions, processes, and outcomes in the European Union and its member states. Candidates should have a strong grounding in theoretical and comparative debates on EU governance, together with an empirical research focus on European policy making. Relevant areas of specialization could include research on policy processes in specific fields (such as environmental protection, market regulation, food and drug safety, public health, employment and social welfare, anti-discrimination rights, justice and security, or crisis management); interactions between the EU and its member states (including studies of Europeanization and multilevel governance); and/or the role of non-state and sub-national actors in European policy making. The successful candidate will be expected to teach basic and advanced undergraduate and postgraduate courses in public policy and governance as well as more specialized courses related to his or her own research interests.
The gross monthly salary will be between €3,195 and €4,970 per month, based on a full-time appointment and depending on the appointee's qualifications and experience. The appointment will be temporary for three years, with the prospect of a permanent appointment if the conditions for tenure are realized.

Department of Political Science
The Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences (FMG) is the largest educational and research institution in the social sciences in the Netherlands. The Faculty serves 7,500 students in numerous Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Communication Science, Psychology, Social Geography, Planning and International Development Studies, and Educational Sciences. The academic staff is employed in education as well as research. There are over 1,100 employees at the Faculty, which resides in a number of buildings in the centre of Amsterdam.
The Department of Political Science is one of the departments of the FMG. Education and research activities are carried out by special institutes. The College of Social Sciences (GSS) and the Graduate School of Social Sciences (GSSS) are responsible for the undergraduate and graduate teaching programmes in Political Science. Most of the research within the Department is conducted in the research programmes of two research schools, the Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies (IMES) and the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (ASSR).
