Job description

LEI has created 4 PhD-positions in collaboration with Wageningen University. These positions are aimed at making new developments in science applicable to enable socially and strategically sound policy choices in politics and business. In this context we are looking for a PhD Behavioral Economist or Socio-Economist.The project is about “Healthy and Sustainable Food Consumption: A Multilevel Lifestyle Approach” and carried out at Wageningen University in cooperation with LEI (Agricultural Economics Research Institute). A healthy and sustainable food lifestyle can be characterized as a coherent constellation of variables at various levels of abstraction, e.g., consumer behaviors, motivations, values, interests and opinions, possibly related to socio-economic and socio-demographic variables including income, age, education, and family structure. Constellations of food lifestyle variables may be different for different segments of the population. For example, some segments may be triggered by “pull” variables (indicating attractiveness of a healthy and sustainable food lifestyle), others by “push” variables (for those dissatisfied with current food production technologies). Alternatively, some segments may be characterized by analytic reasoning and others by intuition in making their food choices. Segments with different food lifestyles may need different policy measures in order to promote healthy and sustainable food consumption. So far, little is known about food lifestyle segments in the Dutch population. Food lifestyle segmentation is the subject of the research to be undertaken.

Requirements

University GraduateMSc in either behavioral economics, socio-economics or economic psychology with good knowledge of segmentation techniques.
