Job description

The Wageningen Land Use Planning Group offers a challenging career path as an Assistant Professor in the field of spatial planning, traffic management and infrastructure engineering. The new Assistant Professor will participate in the research program which focuses on metropolitan landscape, the open spaces in urban agglomerations. These spaces are neither rural nor urban. The Land Use Planning Group produces state-of-the art knowledge on spatial planning.
Planning is perceived as linking scientific knowledge to actions in the public domain. The group is in the process of broadening its scope from a rather narrow Dutch perspective to an international perspective.

Tasks and responsibilities
The candidate is responsible for acquisition, implementation and management of research activities in the field of planning of infrastructural networks in open space in metropolitan areas. The candidate will teach courses in the frame of the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning curriculum (BSc, MSc and PhD). Occasionally the candidate will teach classes in the Bsc Tourism and/or other related Wageningen curricula and develop new courses under the supervision of the education committee of the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning curricula.
It is expected that a leading international position in the field is going to be built up. Besides attracting PhD’s, the research opportunities have to be explored.

Requirements

The successful candidate
- is an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education in the domain of spatial planning and traffic management in open spaces in metropolitan areas.
- holds a PhD in urban and regional planning or civil engineering.
- has knowledge and expertise in operational and strategic spatial planning; infrastructure planning; network analysis and basics of road engineering.
- has strong didactic skills and the ability to become an inspiring teacher
- has a strong track record in spatial planning, traffic management and infrastructure engineering, evidenced by a list of high quality peer reviewed publications
- has a long term vision on the field of spatial planning, mobility and metropolitan landscape, with regard to both research and teaching, and is able to innovate accordingly
- has a clear view on the scientific importance of connectivity theories and its role for society
- has good communicative skills, willingness to co-operate, and participates/maintains in an active (inter)national network
- has the ability to acquire externally financed projects
- is willing to contribute to the general tasks of the chair group
- has the willingness to learn Dutch
