Job description
The group Public Health and Society is part of the sub-department Sociology of Households and Consumption, of the Department of Social Sciences, Wageningen University and Research Centre. The group Health and Society is responsible for social science academic education and research in the field of health, health promotion and health protection. The new professor will be leading the group Health and Society. The content of this professor position is defined as the sociological study of health, health promotion and health protection, in resource-poor as well as resource-rich context, especially in relation to: - food production and consumption; - the living and built environment; - the role of actors and social institutions in advancing health and well-being. The research and PhD training of the Public Health and Society group is embedded in the research school of social sciences at Wageningen University. The group provides education to bachelor and master students in the programs Public Health and Society. Students come from all parts of the world. Lecturing takes place in English.
Requirements
DoctorateThe professor Health and Society will - initiate, supervise and execute education and research on the areas indicated above; - acquire funding for additional research; - supervise Bachelor, Master and PhD students in their research; - manage and lead the Health and Society group; - cooperate with other chair groups at Wageningen University in further developing health related research and education. We are looking for candidates with - a relevant PhD degree in sociology or related social science discipline; - an inspiring vision on the place and position of health and society research and education; - considerable experience with research, proven from publication in key international journals, and preferable in the field of health in relation to food or the environment; - a relevant international network; - excellent didactic qualities and the capacity to motivate students; - proven record in acquisition of research projects; - the capacity to inspire, coordinate and design the group’s research and communicate the results to clients, scientific media and the general public; - excellent leadership and communicating qualities.
Conditions of employment
We offer you a permanent contract, for 38 hours per week.
