Job unknown - Analytical Chemistry Research Assistant

At the (Bio)chemical lab within the department of Plant Breeding we are conducting detailed analysis of different plant compounds including carbohydrates (starch, plant cell walls and each of its different components), oils, proteins and secondary metabolites (including health promoting compounds). To perform this analysis the lab is equipped with multiple apparatus including different HPLC’s, Dionex, GC, Phenom SEM, ANKOM200 Fiber Analyzer, proteomics-2Dgel facility, several apparatus to determine rheology parameters like DSC, texturometer, rheoscope. The candidate will be involved in the (chemical) characterization of different plant compounds using different methods and instruments. He/she will support and complement the work of different PhD students and researchers of different groups within the Plant Breeding department. The research assistant will develop new or improve old protocols to answer new research questions. In addition she/he will be involved in assisting MSc students on a biochemistry practical course. The research assistant will be co-responsible for the Biochemical lab.

For this challenging function we are looking for an ambitious and independent Analytical Chemistry Research Assistant at BSc level (Dutch HBO level) with affinity for Biochemistry. The candidate should fit into the following profile:• Interest and experience in Instrumental analysis of compounds• Ability to develop and improve protocols for the analysis of different (bio)compounds• Independent, enthusiastic and accurate• Good communication skills and a good knowledge of the English language• Minimum of 5 years experience in a (Bio)chemical lab• Team player

This is a fulltime position, for 36 hours a week. The salary will be dependent on quality and experience and can go up to scale 9 with a maximum of € 3495 bruto per month for a full time appointment. The contract will be initially for 2 years with the possibility to be extended into a permanent contract.
