Job description
The Chair Group Virology has an excellent international academic reputation in the research areas of plant and invertebrate virology. The chair holder Virology is responsible for further developing high quality research and teaching in Virology. The mission of the chair group has recently been redefined to ”The Chair Virology studies basic mechanisms related to the functioning of plant, insect and mammalian viruses, with special attention to virus-vector (host) interactions, at the molecular, cellular and organismal level. The aim is to develop durable control strategies for viruses of plants, humans and animals with applications in virus and insect control and in biotechnology.” In the future there will be more focus on a smaller number of research themes studying basic mechanisms at the cellular, sub-cellular and molecular level of (i) virus-vector (host) interactions and (ii) virus adaptation and host behaviour and the impact of changing environmental factors. Education provided by the Chair Virology covers general aspects of virology including viruses of plants and animals (affecting both humans and invertebrates). Basic and more specialized courses are provided to both BSc and MSc students from a number of BSc and MSc programs. With respect to the future direction of the Chair Virology it is important to continue teaching of the present courses in virology and extend these with an additional focus on courses related to health of plants, humans and animals. The expertise and vision of the future chair holder are of utmost importance for making choices in this respect.
Requirements
The successful candidate:• has a leading international scientific position in the area of Virology. • has expertise that fits well into one or more of the main research lines of the Virology Chair Group, as shown by her/his publication records and completed PhD thesis. Knowledge of plant virology and/or insect virology is recommended but not a prerequisite. • is able and willing to actively build on a coherent research team addressing research questions fitting within the present research program and the new mission of the Chair Group. • is well able to demonstrate high quality research and teaching in Virology. • has excellent didactic and interpersonal skills.• has proven organisational and leadership qualities.• is well able to acquire external research funds. • will actively participate in the public debate on issues of virus transmissions by invertebrates to humans and animals.• is preferably not older than 50 years of age.
Conditions of employment
We offer you a permanent contract, for 38 hours per week.
