We offer a chair in economics of agriculture, food and rural areas, with special reference to the European and international context and with geographical focus on the European Union. The new professor acts as head of a group, and attracts research projects in the abovementioned fields. The research is embedded in a research school of social sciences at WU.
The new professor will also shape and co-ordinate education in these fields, actively be engaged in teaching, supervise PhD candidates, offer other post academic courses, and – jointly with economists from other groups – teach basic courses in economics. WU students come from all over the world.
The professor Economics of Agriculture, Food and Rural Areas will
- initiate and provide education in basic economics and economics applied to agriculture, food and rural areas, with special orientation on European and international aspects.
- be responsible for research and education in applied econometrics in these fields
- initiate, supervise and execute research on scientific and socially relevant themes, particularly in international economics
- acquire research grants
- supervise Bachelor, Master and PhD students
- co-operate with other economic teams in the Economics cluster as well as with other social and natural science groups at Wageningen University
- participate in national and international research programmes, especially European ones.
We are looking for candidates with
- PhD degree in a relevant field of specialisation
- Excellent track record in research, with publications in key international journals, acquisition of research projects, and supervision of PhD students
- the capacity to inspire, co-ordinate and set up research teams, and to communicate findings to policy makers, scientific media and the general public
- an inspiring vision on the economics of agriculture, food and rural areas and its mission within and outside Wageningen University
- a relevant international network, especially within Europe.
- outstanding didactic qualities and capacity to motivate students, as substantiated by evaluations and peer reviews,
- proven leadership and communication skills
