Job description
In a challenging career trajectory you are, as an Assistant Professor in the field of
Closing Water, Energy, and Material Cycles in the Urban and Peri-urban Environment
responsible for research and teaching. The field is oriented to develop and design sustainable urban environments, by considering urban water, waste water and waste as resources for sustainable energy recovery and for products that can be re-used such as water, organic carbon, nutrients, metals, building materials, minerals and scarce elements. Different regional, economic, climatic and cultural conditions are included in research and teaching orientations. You will be responsible for the organisation, implementation and coordination of new research activities in this field which is part of the Environmental Technology and Management group as well as building up a leading international position. In this position you will also be motivating and teaching students and develop and implement new courses on sustainable development of peri-urban environments. Training and coaching is provided for the Assistant Professor to accomplish all this.
Requirements
As an Assistant Professor you are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education in Urban Environmental Technology and Management.
You also have:
- a PhD in Environmental Sciences and/or Environmental Technology;
- knowledge and expertise on how to integrate environmental technology in urban infrastructure and urban management and planning;
- ample experience with management of complex projects;
- experience in acquisition of research funding;
- excellent communication skills;
- good didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students.

We offer you as talented scientist a challenging career trajectory called Tenure Track. From the position of Assistant Professor you can grow into a Professor holding a Personal Chair. Of course training and coaching are provided and interdisciplinary (international) cooperation is stimulated. You will also be given the chance to build up your own research line.
As we will only be selecting outstanding candidates to take part in Tenure Track, this will be a good stepping stone to a further career within Wageningen UR or elsewhere.
We offer you a temporary contract with the possibility of extension, for 38 hours per week. Gross Salary: from €3195,00 to €4374,00, based on full time employment and dependent on expertise and experience.
