Job description
The chair in Soil Geography and Landscape studies the dynamic relations between soil genesis, land use and landscape on the larger geographical scales and integrates them with various time scales. Thus, representative and necessary soil data are generated for spatial models on a range of societal topics, such as food production, climate change and energy supply.
The three main research themes are:
- soil development and landscape evolution (geology, geomorphology);
- land inventory and geostatistics;
- scenario studies and land use modeling.
The research is embedded in the programmes of C.T. de Wit Graduate School for Production Ecology & Resource Conservation (PE&RC).
The chair holder substantially contributes to the BSc programme Soil, Water, Atmosphere and the MSc programme Soil Science, which will be succeeded by Geoscience and Environment in 2011. Furthermore, she/he contributes to the BSc and MSc teaching in related programmes International Land and Water Management.
The chair holder is expected to initiate, lead and supervise the academic teaching and scientific research in this field, acquire research funding, supervise BSc, MSc and PhD students, and lead the chair group. She/he closely collaborates with the other chairs in soil science at Wageningen University, which focus on chemical, physical and biological soil processes.
Requirements
The candidate should have an outstanding international reputation and:
- relevant academic education, including PhD;
- evident didactic qualities and the ability to inspire students;
- broad academic experience in soil science, as shown by publications in leading international journals;
- a vision on the role and position of soil research and education within the themes of Wageningen University and the graduate schools;
- willingness to participate in the social debate;
- successful track record in acquisition of research funding;
- coordinating, stimulating and initiating qualities with respect to research;
- experience in the dissemination of results among both society and scientific media in this field;
- an integrative approach to research and education;
- proven managerial ability and communication skills;
- willingness to learn Dutch.
Conditions of employment
We offer you a permanent contract, for 38 hours per week. Maximum salary is € 7.142,-, based on full time employment and dependent on expertise and experience.
