Job Wageningen UR (University & Research centre) - Postdoctoral fellows (two positions for 2 years)

The Department of Physical Chemistry and Colloid Science of Wageningen University NL has two openings for postdoctoral fellows (2 yrs). The positions are available within the framework of the new EU project on Biosensor nanoarrays for environmental monitoring (BIOMONAR). The intended research work is concerned with the development and application of arrayed sensor matrices in the dynamic analysis of inorganic, organic and nanoparticulate pollutant species in aquatic media. Metals will be measured on the basis of electrochemical methodologies, using arrays of individually addressable microelectrodes. Organic pollutants will be measured by solid phase microextraction (SPME).

Position 1 will be concerned with the development and application of arrayed sensor chips in the dynamic analysis of pollutant species in aquatic media. Metal speciation analysis will be carried out with voltammetric techniques, using arrays of individually addressable microelectrodes. Speciation of organic compounds will be analysed by arrays of microsensors for dynamic solid phase microextraction (SPME) over a range of polarities of the extraction phase. Applications are invited from candidates with appropriate experimental skills and an outstanding record in physical chemistry, preferably in the fields of molecular transport and chemical kinetics in solution.

Position 2 focuses on the methodological development of dynamic sensor arrays for the analysis of pollutant species in aquatic media. Voltammetric techniques will be applied to arrays of individually addressable micro-electrodes covering a broad size range. Experimental data sets shall be analysed into a dynamic spectrum of the reactivity of the various metal species.The successful candidate has research-level experience with numerical analysis of reactive transport phenomena and chemodynamics of aqueous metal complexes.

We offer a temporary position with an average working time of 38 hours per week for the period of 2 years. Gross salary € 3755,- maximum per month.
