Job description

The Wageningen Land Use Planning group offers a challenging career path as an Assistant Professor in the field of spatial and environmental planning. As Assistant Professor you will develop an original and scientifically challenging research line and acquire funding for PhD’s and postdocs, and supervise them to become a successful member of a research team. The new Assistant Professor will take a leading role in research and education on the spatial planning of landscapes in the interface between urban and rural land use systems. Your research will focus on communication, design and decision making of land use changes as a societal process based on the interdependency of social, ecological, and economic activities and the physical features of the landscape. Within the academic domain, spatial planning is addressed as a discipline in the borderland between natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities.

For being successful in this task, a leading position in an international network has to be built up. The candidate will teach courses in the frame of the spatial planning curriculum at the Wageningen University (BSc, MSc and PhD). -    holds a PhD in spatial and environmental planning or related fields

-    has a strong, international track record in spatial and environmental planning, evidenced by a list of high quality peer reviewed publications

-  has a long term vision on the field of spatial and environmental planning, with regard to both research and teaching, and is able to innovate accordingly

-    has the ability to link theories in planning with knowledge on the social and physical environment and the spatial organization of landscapes

-    has strong didactic skills and the ability to become an inspiring teacher

-    has good communicative skills

-    participates in an active (inter)national network

-    has been successful in acquiring externally financed projects

-    is willing to contribute to the general tasks of the chair group
