Job description

The candidate we seek for this position has expertise in the broad area of “Networking”, able to combine theory and real-world applications on infrastructural networks (telecommunication, power grid, transportation) and social networks. The candidate is expected to be able to extend and apply expertise in NAS to current research topics in network science.

Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics or operations research. The candidate is able to integrate expertise from diverse domains and collaborate with the EEMCS groups of Prof. Hamdioui (computer architectures), Prof. Hanjalic (network data science), Prof. Redig (stochastic processes on networks), and with the Power Web consortium. In addition, applicants should have:

• Skills and ambition to set up new collaborations with industrial partners.
• Ability and drive to acquire funded research projects at the national and international level.
• Skills and passion for education, including lecturing (see list of the courses on the NAS website) and supervision of students.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

At the start of the tenure-track you will be appointed as Assistant Professor for the duration of six years. Section leader, department leaders and you will agree upon expected performance and (soft) skills. You will receive formal feedback on performance and skills during annual assessment meetings and the mid-term evaluation. If the performance and skills are evaluated positively at the end of the tenure track, you will be appointed in a permanent Assistant Professor position.

The emphasis lies on design and management of infrastructures. NAS also has expertise in concepts (e.g. routing, robustness) of network architectures, in the performance analysis of quality of service-aware protocols and Internet behaviour, and in strategic and business-oriented challenges for network operators.
