We are looking for a colleague to join the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO) project “The Beginning of Dutch Animal Husbandry”. The postdoctoral researcher will analyze multiple stable isotopes of animal bone and teeth from Swifterbant and related assemblages dating to the fifth millennium BC.
The project will investigate the transition from hunting/fishing to animal husbandry in The Netherlands, using Swifterbant period Bos and Sus. The project is led by GIA, and it involves scientists from the Center for Isotope Research at the University of Groningen, Durham archaeology, Wageningen animal genomics, and Trinity College Dublin palaeogenomics, as well as postgraduate researchers who will be analyzing the radiocarbon dates and palaeogenetics of the zooarchaeological assemblages.

• PhD in archaeology (or related field)
• demonstrable experience in incremental sampling of bone/shell/enamel
• in pre-treatment of various hard tissue for stable isotope analysis
• interpretation of SIA results using statistical packages
• affinity with prehistoric archaeology and zooarchaeology
• ability to deliver on time, synchronizing with a diverse team
• excellent academic English.

Fixed-term contract: 36 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
- a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,255 to a maximum of € 3,895 gross per month (salary scale 10.4 – 11.02) for a full-time position
- 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees
- a temporary 1.0 FTE appointment for a specified period of three years.
