Job description

We invite applicants for a 3-year post-doctoral position on understanding the interfacial aspects involved in protein separation using artificial membranes. The complex nature of protein mixtures along with protein physical properties have motivated a detailed study regarding the physics governing specific separations carried out industrially. Within the Soft Matter, Fluidics and Interfaces group at the University of Twente, there is a post-doctoral researcher position available in this area.

In this project a combination of experimental and theoretical studies will be performed that will analyze and determine the underlying dominant mechanisms controlling transport. The intended outcome of this project is to possess a higher degree of insight into these mechanisms and to be able to then utilize this understanding in order to enhance separation efficiency in realistic industrial processes.

These goals will be accomplished via a combination of experimental and theoretical investigations of various systems of interest, as described by the project partners. The starting date is as soon as possible.

Specifications

University of Twente (UT)

Requirements

  • PhD in relevant related field (for example Chemical Engineering or Food Processing).
  • You possess a strong research background in interfacial phenomena, both theoretical and experimental.
  • Previous experience with investigations of soft matter systems is a strong asset.
  • Possessing programming skills, in for example Python or MATLAB, is considered a strong benefit for any candidates.
  • Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory.

The Soft Matter, Fluidics and Interfaces (SFI) group (https://www.utwente.nl/en/tnw/sfi/) studies the fundamental transport and related interfacial phenomena relevant for chemical processes, for example in membrane separations or catalysis. Research within SFI consists of theoretical, numerical and experimental investigation lines into these areas, often using microfluidic devices. SFI is part of the Membrane Science and Technology (MST) cluster and the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology. Within the MST cluster, there are multiple staff members running membrane and membrane-related research lines from the molecular scale to process level. You will be part of and expected to contribute to a dynamic and world-class research environment. You should be eager to engage in international and interdisciplinary collaborative workplace and possess excellent communication skills.
