Job description

The department Materials, Mechanics, Management & Design (3MD) has a vacancy for a 0,3 fte full professor Construction Technology of Civil Engineering Structures. Goal of construction technology is to achieve, under given circumstances of multidisciplinary, integral and capital intensive construction challenges, the 'optimal solution' in combination with a performance-based building approach and awareness of uncertainties. Of great value are new developments in the digital building process to improve efficiency, safety and environmental footprint, including digital construction and the use of virtual/augmented reality, artificial intelligence, serious gaming, big data etc. For all these new developments, fundamental knowledge and practical experience with existing construction methods for immersed, bored or cut-and-cover tunnels, with immersed caissons and installation of gates/doors, construction of different types of bridges and with auxiliary constructions as sheet piling walls or cofferdams are essential.

Construction Technology is one of the main courses in the master track Structural Engineering, but also of importance for other civil engineering tracks and related courses in design, materials science, structures and (soil) mechanics. Aim is to introduce novel construction technologies in the course. Close cooperation exists within the faculty with groups working on concrete/steel structures, sub-surface engineering and hydraulic engineering, but also with (Dutch) construction industry.
