We are looking for someone to strengthen our group Science Communication and Society. We study and teach science communication. Our students combine the master specialization Science Communication and Society with a master from the science faculty. Besides courses, they do internships on science communication practice and research. The key responsibilities are:

• Coordination of all master student internships at SCS;
• Supervision of a part of the individual master student internships at SCS;
• Organizing the Leiden Tutoring Program.

This position combines the supervision and coordination of both practical and research internships of our students with the organization of the Leiden Tutoring Program.

For three days, you will be involved in the internships of our master students. Their practical projects can be external, for example at a museum or with a popular science magazine. You will supervise a part of these projects and coordinate the internships of the other advisors. Their research projects are connected to science communication research. Within these projects you have the opportunity to publish the results with the students. Furthermore, you will coordinate all internships and final presentations.

For two days, you are responsible for a smooth organization of The Leiden Tutoring Program within the National Research Agenda project Broadening Youth Participation in STEM Learning. In this program, Leiden University students tutor at primary schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods in The Hague. You are in close contact with the contact persons at the primary schools, the study advisors and the students if needed. You make sure that all parties receive the appropriate information in time, that deadlines are protected and required meetings are scheduled accordingly.

• MSc (specialisation) in Science communication, Science Education or a related field;
• Fluent in Dutch and English;
• Experience with survey research, qualitative interviewing and content analysis;  
• You like to take initiative and are very well-organised;
• You have social and communicative skills and enjoy being in contact with students, schools and primary school students.       

We offer a full-time 1 year term position, with the possibility of renewal based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from €2,835.-  to €3,895.- gross per month (pay scale 9 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years., There’s a language proficiency of minimum level Cl required for staff who will teach in English.
