Job description

The objective of the organisation optimisation project is to design, organise and implement a new way of working within Hotelschool The Hague in which self-organising principles both on individual and team level play a key role and are one of the driving forces to create a new culture together within Hotelschool The Hague the coming years.

The new bachelor leadership actively participates to create, implement, establish and improve the new empowered professional work environment. The program managers support, facilitate, inspire and also monitor and guide their colleagues and teams to take full responsibility and ownership for their professional work within the boundaries and policies of the school. A leadership role in which result oriented focus, contributing to the strategic objectives, awareness of the many interdependencies and acting jointly accordingly, knowledge of how to run an educational 4 years bachelor operation of a university of applied science and empowerment go hand in hand.

Objective of the job
The Program Manager Bachelor contributes to the strategic policy of the school and its educational vision. S/he is responsible for the daily execution, the quality of education for our students and the operational results of a phase of the bachelor program and encourages and facilitates the ongoing improvement of all bachelor courses. S/he collaborates within and across teams.

Main areas of responsibility

1. Strategy & goals
Translating the vision, mission and strategic objectives of Hotelschool The Hague into clear and measurable individual goals and objectives for each professional and/or team by sharing, discussing and agreeing on the objectives to be set and met. The program manager consistently and continuously monitors the progress, discusses the outcomes and together with the professionals/individuals and teams defines possible follow-up action(s). Everything we do should benefit our students and the quality of their education.

2. Professional work environment
Creating a professional empowered work environment that operates within the set boundaries of the strategy and policies of the school. Within a clearly defined set of boundaries the program manager stimulates and challenges all professionals and teams to take full ownership to achieve the objectives set. The program manager strives for, implements and monitors maximum autonomy and self organisation by the professionals and teams by delegating as much responsibilities as possible to the individual professionals and the teams. The program manager guides and coaches the professionals and teams in this process, removes possible obstacles and provides the necessary resources to establish and improve the defined self-organizing professional work environment.

3. Innovation
The program manager emphasizes the importance of continuous innovation and stimulates ongoing and fast implementation of changes into the daily work of the professionals and teams; innovation as a result of e.g. new applied research and industry trends. The professionals and teams have been given the authority and resources to explore, identify and make the desired changes or to execute new ideas, concepts and experiments. The program manager coaches and guides, but also monitors and checks to safeguard the high quality of the work and the alignment within the bachelor program.

4. Communication
The program manager is transparent with sharing relevant key organizational performance information (e.g. financial, important projects, quality). The program manager is the intermediate between the strategic objectives set by the organization and the professionals and teams that deliver the (desired) results. The program manager continuously emphasizes this and takes ownership of the two-way information stream: sharing and discussing expectations of the management versus feedback and suggestions of the professionals and teams. S/he coordinates also all communication with and to students about the schools and its programs. The manager will have a role in external representation of the school to key stakeholders in education and industry.

Requirements

As a candidate you have:

  • leadership skills;
  • knowledge of leading a department and relevant management experience;
  • analytical skills and conceptual thinking skills;
  • broad (theoretical) knowledge of educational and hospitality management;
  • team playing skills;
  • organizational / cultural sensitivity;
  • to be fit as a role model (“walk the talk”).

Conditions of employment

Hotelschool The Hague offers a salary based on scale 13 with a range between € 4.955,73 - € 6.036,14 per month depending on your professional experience and qualifications in line with the sector’s collective agreement (CAO-HBO).
