The Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) is looking for a Lecturer in Linguistics and African Studies

Job description

Leiden University Centre for Linguistics is looking for a lecturer to teach or co-teach undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics and African studies. Teaching comprises courses in field methods, language documentation and language endangerment as well as courses on topics such as language and communication in Africa in various programs, including the BA and MA Linguistics, the BA African Languages and Cultures, the Research MA African studies, the BA International Studies and the BA Urban studies. Other responsibilities include the supervision of a number of BA and MA theses, internships and study abroad activities, and attending meetings of the various departments.

Requirements

  • PhD in Linguistics;
  • Experience in linguistic fieldwork;
  • Experience in teaching in relevant fields;
  • Dedicated to motivational teaching; 
  • Strong in collegial cooperation;
  • An excellent command of English.

Conditions of employment

We offer a fixed-term post from 1 August 2021 until 31 July 2022. The position is part-time (0.8 FTE). Salary range from € 2,790.- to € 4,402.- gross per month based on fulltime employement (pay scale 10 , in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years.
