Job description

The group of Dr. Jacques Bothma currently has a vacancy for a technician to work on Quantitative imaging of transcription regulation in development.

Description of the project:
How an embryo interprets the noncoding parts of its genome to produce the different cell types necessary to build an animal is one of nature’s enduring mysteries. Unravelling it promises to not only yield new insights into disorders of development and cancer, but also reveal the organizing principles of life. Our lab approaches this problem by imaging the key regulatory proteins and regions of DNA mediating these decisions in their endogenous context in real time to understand the basic molecular mechanisms at work. We are constantly developing new ground-breaking imaging and labelling technologies that empower us to visualize and quantify these processes in ways that have never been done before. Our experimental workhorse is the early fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) embryo, but we are excited to expand into artificial vertebrate embryos and organoids in the future. The day to day work will require doing molecular cloning to create transgenes, husbandry of flies and quantitative microscopy of fly embryos.
