Utrecht University (UU) is founded in 1636 and is one of the largest universities in the Netherlands, it has over 8000 staff and 31.600 students. UU has the largest Graduate School in Europe, with over >1750 PhDs only within the Life Sciences Graduate School (GS-LS) – an interdisciplinary and cross-faculty PhD program.
The
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has 400 researchers including 180 PhD fellows and is the only veterinary knowledge center in the Netherlands and one of the highest ranked worldwide (ranked 4th in QS World University Rankings 2020). The Faculty’s research efforts are concentrated in three thematic interdisciplinary research programs, which are embedded within the University-wide Life Sciences program. The Faculty’s research programs are: One Health – focused on the relationship between animal, human and environment; One Medicine – focused on parallels between human and veterinary medicine; Veterinary Biomedicine – aimed at genesis, diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases.
The
Department Biomolecular Health Sciences, one of three departments within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has 166 FTE employees including 50 PhD students. The department includes the three divisions Pathology, Infection & Immunity as well as Cell Biology, Metabolism & Cancer.
