Job description

The Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society offers five visiting researcher places to refugee PhD students and scholars from Ukraine who are currently located in the Netherlands. The visiting researcher places are intended to last up to 6 months (180 days). They provide applicants with a bridging opportunity to continue existing research that was interrupted due to the war, to work out an application for an externally funded research or job opportunity or to pursue a related CV-building project.

Eligibility:

LUCAS is a warm and diverse intellectual community with scholars from different backgrounds and nationalities. We offer workspace, access to university facilities and mentorship to Ukrainian PhD students and scholars at risk who are currently in the Netherlands. The places are available with immediate effect. Applicants can be PhD students, early career researchers or experienced researchers in the humanities working in fields such as literary history and theory, film and media studies, and art, architectural and book history. More information on the LUCAS research agenda can be found here. Applicants should have a sufficient command of English.

We strive to extend the number of places at LUCAS to also accommodate scholars at risk due to the domestic political situation in Russia and Belarus. For these two groups, different work permit, visa and residence regulations apply in the Netherlands. For this reason, this call is only open to Ukrainian scholars who are affected by the war.

What we offer:

We offer to integrate applicants in LUCAS’ research community by matching them with a mentor who can help coordinate their next steps. We also offer working space in our office facilities, computing facilities and access to the university library so that applicants can continue their research.

How to join us:

This call will stay open for as long as there are available places. If you are interested in joining us, please contact us via the e-mail address below. No formal application is necessary. It suffices to send us a short explanation of how your work fits in with LUCAS so we can assess how we can best help you. If you have a CV at hand, you can send it to us as well.
