Job description

Do you have an interdisciplinary perspective on developments in AI and other technologies and how they are transforming our thinking about organisations? Do you think about how change is affected by digital technologies and AI?

We seek an assistant professor interested in how digital technology and AI affect how organisations function, how work is structured and managed. Addressing issues such as (but not limited to) the consequences of these changes, their legitimacy, and the controversy, resistance, accompanying the adoption and utilisation of digital technologies; how change is affected by the adoption and presence of digital technologies and AI? How digitization affects (de)centralization within organisations, the interaction between formal and informal organisation, organisational design, and organisational boundaries.

We look for applicants with a macro-orientation/perspective who embrace methodological pluralism, possibly including innovative methods for the digital age to help build our macro research group that incorporates OT, sociology, management, economics, and macro-organisational behaviour, and contributes to RSM's management research, education, and engagement.

Your main tasks
Tenure-track assistant professor in Organisation and Digitization

teaching, research and engagement
  • Conduct and publish research in the field of organisation and digitization - an interdisciplinary area that may relate to macro fields such as organisation theory, sociology, management, economics or organisational behaviour at macro -level
  • Engage with and contribute to the department's furthering of macro perspectives on organisation
  • Teach RSM's master and bachelor students, ideally connecting macro and micro perspectives, and be able to teach post-graduate students
  • Supervise master and bachelor theses
  • Engage in RSM's mission: being a force for positive change in the world

Requirements

  • A PhD or expect to complete a PhD during 2023 in OT, sociology, management, economics, or a closely related field in management or the social sciences
  • Outstanding achievements in the research field of Organisation and Digitization or clear evidence of high potential for such research (i.e., published papers and/or high-quality papers in the pipeline for top management journals - see the ERIM journal list)
  • Teaching excellence or indication of excellent teaching potential

Your required competences
  • Passionate about research and teaching
  • Team-player, willing to collaborate with others, and positively contribute to the department's development and excellence
  • An ability to collaborate with colleagues, including micro-OB scholars, to bridge the department's main areas of research
  • Fluent in English; Dutch fluency an advantage, but optional

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 10 years (tenure track).

  • A contract of 38 hours per week
  • A challenging full-time position at a well-known business school and based on the Tenure Track system.
  • A starting date of 1 September 2023. An earlier or later starting date can be discussed.
  • Safe employment conditions.
The conditions of employment correspond with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO VSNU). Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 3,974 (scale 11 CAO NU) gross per month and up to a maximum of € 6,181 gross per month (scale 12 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.
